Down among the rocks in a crater Dug by a million years of a raging fire Thrust into the earth We buried all we could see From the light of the day All around me, voices in the grotto Breathing in the burning gases I feel the flashing of a million eyes Looking out from within the earth To behold my form I try not to look down As my body descends Into the tunnel A tunnel where metal is rain And where rocks are vapor My paper bursts into flame Then to ash, and it's gone Down into the tunnel A tunnel where metal is rain And where rocks are vapor High above me, covering the surface Shadows are following the motion of the sun People no longer believe in the legends The stories that drove countless conquerors on All around me, voices in the grotto Whispering in tongues forgotten Of people who fought, and who lost everything To the tide of invaders whose thirst could not be satisfied A whisper of a shadow A shadow of a dream A dream of justice A justice that cannot be granted That cannot be A whisper of a shadow A shadow of a dream A dream of justice A justice that cannot be granted That cannot be There are rivers of gold That dwarf their wildest dreams That drove men to burn worlds in their greed Legends that to this day remain in the ground May they never be found

I broke last night From the chain-link fence Tripping over cinder-blocks And holes hidden in the dense fog Making my way through discarded diapers Dodging any bullets that come from the camouflage snipers Clinging to the map that I got trading apocryphal stories I'm running fast now Fast as a machines I try to follow my directions beyond the blurry screen But the map's all wrong Horribly, completely wrong Woven incompletely like the words of a dream There should be fields here but I see nothing but trees There should be deserts there yeah well I see only seas I can't find my way, though there must be some The facts are deceptions, very difficult to overcome We've lost our sense of direction We might never find our way out of here We'll move against the grain Endlessly into the stratosphere So I take my confusion to the top of the mountain I take my confusion to the top of the mountain
